Trip to Horseshoe Curve

Thursday August 8th

Returning in the morning I found that Horseshoe Curve was a part of the Railroaders Memorial Museum and I was able to buy a combined ticket to both sites. It would be nice to me though if the grounds could be open until sunset but this is not currently available.

The museum in Altoona takes up a major portion of the former Norfolk Southern shops and offices with a number of exhibits highlighting the workers and job positions that have been available to railroaders through the years. This is combined with exhibits of the equipment they used, all the way from lamps for the workers to complete engines.

The museum at Horseshoe Curve has exhibits about the curve and the rail line that uses it, as well as the nearby reservoir system that holds water for the Altoona area.
